LGBTQ+ Grief Resources
Grief in the LGBTQ+ community carries extra layers: chosen family who may not be recognized by law or blood, estrangement from families of origin, loss of partners or friends during the AIDS crisis, and a world that still sometimes fails to honor your love or your loss. You may have to fight to have your grief seen as legitimate. It is. Your love was real, your loss is real, and there are resources built by and for people who understand your story.
National Resource
SAGE: The nation's largest organization for LGBTQ+ elders, providing community, advocacy, and support, including grief and loss programming that honors the community's unique history.
Grief & Support
The Trevor Project: The leading suicide prevention and crisis support organization for LGBTQ+ young people, free, confidential, and affirming, available 24/7 by phone, text, or chat.
More Grief Support
PFLAG: The oldest and largest organization for LGBTQ+ people, their families, and allies, with 500+ chapters nationwide offering peer support. A safe place where your love and your loss are honored as real.
Trans Lifeline: A peer-support crisis line run by and for trans people, where the person answering understands trans life without needing it explained. Free, confidential, and affirming of every identity.
